Grounded game director Adam Brennecke shared a short video on Friday in celebration of Grounded’s second early access launch anniversary. In the video, Brennecke thanks all of Grounded’s fans for playing the game and helping guide its direction over the past two years. He then confirms Grounded’s final release date of September 27 and calls the time between now and then the “Home Stretch” of development. There are a lot of exciting plans for Grounded coming together and the release date is just one of them.

To start the Home Stretch, Obsidian is releasing its final update to Grounded’s public testing servers. Update 0.14.0 includes several exciting features that Grounded players will appreciate. These include the Gnat pet, the Cookery building, the ability to convert games into custom games, a revamp of the armor and weapon upgrade system, and other changes. This is just a taste of what’s to come in the final version of Grounded, of course, but Obsidian is still going to use these last months of early access for their intended purpose.

The other announcement that Brennecke is celebrating is the recent confirmation of a Grounded television show being in development. The game is currently being developed into an animated TV series by Star Wars: The Clone Wars writer Brent Friedman. That’s not to say that it will happen, as there’s still a lot of work to be done, but it’s exciting nonetheless.

Grounded’s full release was initially announced in June. Obsidian confirmed it was wrapping up the 1.0 release of Grounded and planned to deliver it in September. Content included in this final major update includes the Mantis boss, the upper yard to explore, the remaining story chapters, as well as plenty of new armor and weapons, too.

As with all major first-party Xbox releases, Grounded will also be made available through Xbox Game Pass on both PC and console. For those who haven’t given Grounded a try yet, this will be the best opportunity to see what Obsidian Entertainment has been working on these past two years.

Grounded releases September 27 on PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
